The Apennines mountain chain runs north-south through this image of the Moon, between Mare Imbrium at left and Mare Serenitatis at right. The large crater at the left margin is Archimedes (83km diameter). At the top of the image is the crater Cassini (57km). The walls of this crater are narrow and irregular in form but remain intact despite the crater being flooded with lava from Mare Imbrium.© 2008 A .Newsam & the LT project.
