Liverpool John Moores University has been awarded one of the UK's most prestigious educational awards for the work of the Astrophysics Research Institute. Focussing on its development of the world's largest robotic telescopes, in particular the Liverpool Telescope, the Prize also rewards the Institute's significant public outreach work with the National Schools' Observatory and Spaceport and recognises the innovation and success of its undergraduate Astrophysics degree and distance learning courses.

The biennial Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education recognise and reward the outstanding contribution that universities and colleges in the United Kingdom make to the intellectual, economic, cultural and social life of the nation. Formal presentation of the award by the Queen will take place at Buckingham Palace in February, following a dinner at the Guildhall.
