PATAG Time Allocations

Timing & Conditions

Note that time awarded is in hours (not nights) and is divided first between Bright and Dark sky conditions (i.e. if the moon is up or down) and then further by Good, Average, or Spectroscopic seeing conditions. These Moon and seeing criteria represent the "worst acceptable" conditions under which the observations will be executed. Note however from Semester 10B we do not display the sky brightness and seeing conditions on these pages.

Programmes

From Semester 09B we introduced the concept of an observing programme. A programme comprises one or more individual proposals which have a common ongoing research programme. Target data are shared between proposals in a programme. This is intended to simplify data entry when a new web interface is introduced shortly which will enable PIs (and their nominated Co-Is) to enter Phase 2 data directly into the telescope database.

The simplest example of a programme is a series of similar proposals from the same PI in successive semesters, though there are also cases where separate proposals from multiple PIs in multiple TAGs might collaborate to form a single programme. Target coordinates and instrument configurations are shared between proposals in a programme, though password controlled access to the resulting science data remains on a proposal-by-proposal basis. The explicit concept of a continuing programme also clarfies the date at which an observing programme is complete and the proprietary period for the date expires.
