Proposal Instructions
Applying for time on the Liverpool Telescope

When to apply
Apply by responding to our twice-yearly calls for proposals, which go out in March and September, four months before the start of the semester in which your observations are to be taken. Note that our semester dates are:

• Semester A: 1st February – 31st July
• Semester B: 1st August – 31st January

How to apply
Your application is submitted in two phases. You can only proceed to Phase 2 once you have successfully completed Phase 1....

• Phase 1 - the science definition phase
  • Send in a Phase 1 proposal to the TAG outlining your science case for observation using specifically a robotic telescope. The TAG meetings are usually held shortly after the deadline.
  • If you are awarded time on the LT, you are notified, your allocations appear on the Allocations Page, and you then proceed to Phase 2.
• Phase 2 - the observation specification phase
  • Here you specify the actual observations to be made by the LT. Starting with semester 10A, observations are specified using an on-line tool called the phase2ui, run from within your web browser.

Short Project proposals (LT internal only)
ARI researchers can also apply for "Short Project Programme" time, outside of the usual semester-based rounds. For more information click here.
